Sazari - high flying big shot corporate attorney who is at the da's office for a year as part of a plea agreement in which no wrong doing was admitted. Sazari is an innocent man, but now grapples with the rampant corruption in the court system. How will he effectively advocate for his clients without resorting to the unethical behavior he was originally accused of? Sazari is the red bull fueled shit talking minority counterpart to non, and the two often go to happy hour together after work and try to pick up Latin women well out of their league.

Non - I'd also say The Line. You've doubtless got a few stories that you could tell in there. Then, you can ask your friends for their stories. Model a judge after some real-life schumck judge you know.

And, keep it light. I wouldn't get too deep into a plot, unless you have a really good one lined up. You could have a small plot (takes up less than 20% of the pages) about how you started as a law student and eventually defended a big case. But, most of it should be stories about all-nighters, drinking heavily after an exam, etc.

Look at the Wolf of Wall Street. Good book (though I heard the movie was a comedy?). Virtually no plot. I have no idea how he became rich, I have no idea what happened to his company, I have no idea where he ended up (except for internets). But, it was a page turner, because you wanted to see what crazy sub-story was going to happen next.

Do the line but add in some kind of twist. Like maybe the public defender has the power to fly, but has to keep it a secret so he doesn't become a distraction to his clients defense. I'm bad at these kind of things but just a straightforward story about a public defender needs some sprucing up.

Also, keep in mind that the best literary works these days are made into serialized television rather than movies, so consider how that's going to translate when you're writing it.

If you want to try and write a novel then go for it, but if you're just doing it because it's on some old bucket list, then it's going to be tough to do. Writing a book, esp a novel is not easy; Even harder to get it published.
Any idea how many wannabe writers there are out there that will never finish a novel or get published?

Check out The Atlantis Gene, by A.G. Riddle. He wrote it, then published it to Amazon. Not sure if he even got a publisher, as his exact words in the "Author's Note" at the end of the book are "I wrote it, edited it . . . and then in late March, I took the plunge and posted it to Amazon". Basically, no one read it for a while, then he got a few positive reviews. Then a few more. Eventually, it made it onto the Bestsellers list, and is now one of the most popular sci-fi books on Amazon.

Might want to check out if you even need a "publisher" to post a book on Amazon.

Looks like The Line is in the lead. Don't worry it'll be light, my main influence for that book will be (young) douglas adams.

Blood Rites is in second place it seems.
