She quoted one of those lines from the old testament that reveal how barbaric, violent and hateful much of the Bible's content is. That automatically means it must have been taken out of context.

The relevancy is obvious. Perhaps if Christians abandoned the OT entirely and declared their god separate from the same god who permitted the Israelites to commit genocide and rape against foes they wouldn't have this problem.
If an ignorant person read the Bible and the Satanic Bible, they'd probably find the latter more in tune with an ethical system of life because it evokes the sentiment 'leave people alone' vs 'don't do this, or this, or this.'
Hell it's not the like NT is all sweet and loving either. I much prefer the Tao Te Ching. Moderation and simplicity are awesome themes.
