Christian Zionism isn't some made-up Jew-hating conspiracy. It has been around for nearly two hundred years. It used to go by Restorationism. A few of these members believe that it is part of biblical prophecy regarding the apocalypse. Most believe that it is their Christian duty to help restore Israel. The latter belief has been common amongst Protestants since the Reformation. Here is a somewhat famous Catholic on the matter... John F. Kennedy:

John Quincy Adams... Herbert Hoover... Abraham Lincoln... Dwight Eisenhower... And many more have supported Zionism. It was a fairly common religious belief. Not a sinister conspiracy.

As for Russia I still haven't heard a reason why they'd ally with Israel. For what reason? How do they benefit at all?
