It seems that the fact that these people exist, are themselves, are not acting, and are part of real Southern American society really annoys some people here. They are not being exploited. Some producer under his Discovery Inc. bosses is placing the hicks in scripted scenes made to bring out their true Southern-billy traits. Warts, farts, gluttony, ignorance and all. In exchange the hillbilly get money for a new truck, new teeth, or an indoor toilet. USA USA USA

Buckwild was cancelled after a cast member made it into the Darwin Awards though. i was amazed mtv stopped it tbh

also these shows are not about exploiting southerners, its about exploiting stupid and obnoxious people

Stereotypes are based on real world trends, if you wanna change the stereotype you have to change the underlying cause of the stereotype. People don't arbitrarily assign stereotypes like "asians are hard workers" and "blacks are great athletes", statistically in the U.S. Asians do well on SATs compared to their peers and blacks are over-represented in major U.S. sports.

Likewise southeners are more likely to go "gator hunting" than northeasterners.

Anyways I watched the Guist brothers on swamp people not to mock their lifestyle, in the middle of finals week chilling on a boat fishing and being able to completely DGAF seemed like the dream.
