The south, because of its geopolitical history, soaks up more of its share of Americana. It's not the South we're making fun of... its the absolute most pure essence of what it means to be American that we're making fun of. The coasts are European, the South West is Mexican, and the Midwest and South East are pure America.

I've lived in the South my whole life and probably only ran into the true southern stereotypes maybe a couple of times. It's not prevalent in the major cities, mainly just in smaller towns off in the middle of nowhere.
We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will yet swell the chorus when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.

I guess that I don't see "the South" that much. Living in the most European of all American cities, we end up being pretty tolerant and progressive. And, I mean that in it's real sense, not political.
