Tell me again how Sochi got the Olympics in the first place?

I get how NJ got the Super Bowl--which made no sense until it did--but this is just bizarre.

Shitty accommodations, bad work ethic, a shitty country with an abysmal human rights record, whose main export besides oil is cyber hacking.

Why not just have them in Pakistan next time?

also they are holding the winter olympics in the one place in russia where palm trees grow

im sure it was corruption and kick backs to the IOC voting committee. they had it in salt lake. if they had that shit in salt lake they sure as hell had it in sochi

i get wanting to include everybody but really, western europe, us, canada, aussies, japan, s. korea, and china and that's about it are the only ones that should be able to host the olympics. want to host? fix your country first

I think the stories that come out of this one are going to be epic, about how unprepared they were.

That, and the fact this is going to be the most unsafe Olympics ever. Would YOU trust Russian security? I wouldn't. Having the site sit right next to a hotbed of Islamic terrorism--hmmm... not a great idea.

I was personally involved in the Sochi Olympics and did a design for the Main Media Center building before my client backed out due to the 2008 Economic Turd Flush. I visited the site multiple times and I was stunned how little infrastructure or structure of any type was in place 2008. I realize they had many years still to build, but there was NOTHING at that site prior to the Olympics. I was worried for the Russkies back then because I know they can't crunch out stuff like the Chinese can(for instance). The Olympic site is the catalyst for Putin's dream of a Russia Riviera (Imeretinskaya Riviera) along the east coast of the Black sea, so everything being designed for the Olympics was supposed to be used afterwards. They also brought in private developers to do most of the work, which is why it's effed up like it is right now. Russia developers are DODGY.........

I do remember taking a drive up into the mountains to see the location for some of the other venues and encountered a guy who had a camel, chimpanzee, and a python at this overlook along a mountain road. So random and so Russian.
