Yeah but they're still at a disadvantage, because they have to also deal with Japan and Korea, both of which are US allies and are terrified of China ruling the seas.
And they're ship-ship missiles will be neutralized by US missile defense systems. Some of which are currently in place.
In a 3v3 battle (carriers) the US wins handedly for the next decade at least, probably longer, since any such battle also includes US allies in the region.
I found a few articles that I think are pretty good:
http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2012/07/china/http://www.businessinsider.com/dont-bel ... ile-2012-7Don't forget, that even as China develops better tech and ships, they will continue to be hard-countered by missile defense. Then what? Press 1 a whole bunch and missile spam? How long could China even sustain something like that?
Submarines you say?
And in what way could the US not continue to sustain a sizable force at least? Maybe not 15, but we really don't need that many unless we're still policing the world.
