We're only talking about it because linguistic quirks are part of the discussion in the thread. Coming from a country with a very strong Spanish tradition, its always jumped out at me how poorly the average Brit seems to do with a lot of Spanish (and Italian) words that crop up in day to day conversation. Its OK. Clarino shouldn't take it so hard. We're famous for our own various linguistic oddities.

Actually...this is all your fault, with your little "Italy as Iddly" comment! That's what kicked us down this road. Innit?

My favorite accents are generally South American (Think Colombia and Brazil) or Spanish/Portuguese. As far as British accents go, I disagree. The farther north the better. Go with Connery. The RP stuff is thumbs down. (Except when Keira Knightley does it. She could make wet farting noises through an old ziploc bag and I wouldn't care) I spent most of my time there in and around Nottingham, but most enjoyed time spent even further north. Cumbria in particular, best of the English accents my ear was able to discern at first. Finer differences took longer to pick up on, as the differences in American accents tend to be more dramatic, at least to my experience as native speaker of one. Honestly, Scottish accents trounce the hell out of English ones.

I'm a great admirer of accents in general, so I don't really complain. Don't actually consider any of them to be "pure". Its just a matter of what sounds nicest to your ear.
