though letting an entire sector of your economy collapse and just absorbing the unemployed would be consistent with the california method of economics.

I doubt the entire sector would collapse but farmers should be prepared to start adapting by growing less water intensive crops or developing methods to conserve water. The people worst hit will be the legal and illegal migrant workers that pick the crops and a few wealthy landowners.

Utilities in some areas are already raising residential water rates, this just means people will think twice about installing pools and less water intensive landscaping will become more popular.

1. i didn't say it was a huge part of the economy. nowhere did i even hint at it.
2. i didn't say "farmers will just move". i said they'll try and establish themselves elsewhere if they have to. unless we're going to pretend economics isn'tt a huge motivating factor in human migration. i mean, i hope we aren't, considering your location and why its demographics are the way they are.
3. go ahead and shut down your AG exports. really, even attempt to do that. not a single party involved in agriculture in your state would ever just pull out of selling surplus food if they didn't absolutely have to.
4. your population is huge, and most of what you grow is specialized crap that's only seasonal in the rest of the country. you're going to just subsist on avocados and almonds?

Comrade is just upset because he knows New York's economy will never again compare to the economy of California and Tejas. The cash crop of New York is cabbages, and they taste like crap. Just smile and nod your head.

I can understand having pride for NY, they have "the greatest city in the world®" thing going for themselves but they are a little insecure about their status as the "place for new ideas" and the "place to get things done" as Google builds self driving cars in palo alto and new york spits out its 50th urban arugula farm or a website like thought catalog.
