i read an interesting article about how russian television commentators in the olympics say things like "lets hope she falls here" when watching an american figure skater. or they will say, "ugly crooked legged american gymnast so-n-so is up next". and when watching a russian "show these americans how its done" who then does fall they say things like "it was good, had a few problems that weren't noticeable she should get a good score" or some crap and then are appalled when she doesn't. this in turn whips up the proletariat who have unreasonable expectations for their own athletes. yeah, russia had a shot, but i don't think they should have ever been viewed as favorites or even really medal contenders. north america dominate and then scandinavia. then comes russia. the only reason for soviet dominance was cheating
