Much easier to figure out how to cure cancer than it is to simultaneously appeal to the crazed fundies constituting the GOP base and the normal Americans in the middle.

Yeah I agree.
To appeal to the GOP base you have to say and do things that 90% of the Western world considers offensive and terrifying. There's just no way you can pull this off without ostracizing yourself from the middle.

Any party that has to go against it's core beliefs isn't worth voting for. Stand up for what you think is right. People respect you if you stand up for what you believe in. Like the song says, "You gotta stand for something, or you'll fall for anything."
