that's just stupid. you're either going to end up with a slow and unofficial genocide of ethnic ukrainians and tatars or you're going to end up with another chechnya, neither of which benefits anyone and only further destabilizes the region. and if russia starts land-grabbing the ukraine is going to have a hard time getting its shit together and joining the EU and NATO.

yeah, for ethnic russians, who can go 100km and be in russia if they want. and considering russia has been a complete dick and been handing them passports for about a decade, they won't have any trouble.

Only half the population is ethnically Russian and I doubt there's universal support among them to be part of Russia. One demonstration by a group (which had a counterdemonstration)does not mean the region is a hivemind in agreement.
Like I said, they have Russian passports and are a short drive away. Try can be part of Russia if they really want to.
