the point is that when the Europeans got here up to 95% of the population of the continent had been eradicated already, so yes, they were exploring the ruins. The reforestation that occurred in the wake this devastation is thought to have caused the little ice age. Scientific evidence backs this theory up. I think you could say there is no doubt.
