Let's get rid of tipping

Go back re read my post. I clearly state that most Europeans will have forgotten (a lot of them won't even know, why would they?) that US waiters and waitresses are paid are pittance by their employers.

Is minimum wage laws something you take a serious interest in before going on holiday to another developed nation?

No, the only reason I know that tipping is more there is because of this site. Otherwise I'd literally have no idea. I'd heard stories of people being told that they need to tip by waitresses or waiters in the states but in regards to how much that should roughly be. No, literally no idea. This site is probably my biggest outlet of American culture and how your shit works. If I hadn't come here I'd be clueless, why would it be any different?

Anecdote from last night. Went to new restaurant in town. They were slammed, but our waiter was doing a great job. Spent lots of time with us, was nice to the kids, and got our order right and out on time. Evidently, the couple next to us didn't think so. They got their food in good time, it wasn't sent back, and I didn't see that they had any special visits by management or anything. But, they got their check, paid, got their change and then skipped out without leaving a tip. We felt bad for the waiter, because he hadn't done anything wrong.

So, I ended up tipping him extra. On a $40 meal, I left him $20 tip.

Did it once. Still have remorse even though it was totally legit.
