Foul play. Its either on the bottom of the ocean, or hid in some remote airstrip.

I bet an intact Boeing 777 could fetch a couple million dollars for a rouge Malaysian pilot sympathetic to some Muslim terrorist cause if he were to fly it to some abandoned Soviet era military airstrip in a Republic of Backwaterstan location.

New theory: Putin put secret operatives on the plane (or bribed the pilots) to shut down all communications then fly the plane under radar and out where it would never be found, for the purpose of creating a media diversion to what he's doing in Crimea.

Things like the transponder should be hardwired on. When the plane is running, its always on. No off switch.
