Seems a forgone conclusion that the normal rules of biochemistry don't apply to zombies. Walking corpses. They're already stone cold and powered by something other than metabolism anyways....

Pittsburgh and many parts of Ohio would hold up well during the zombie apocalypse because you wouldn't really be able to tell the difference.

If there was a "viable scientific explanation" for zombies it would likely involve some form of parasitism rather than true reanimation. Which would mean that the victim remained alive, possibly conscious of everything, but in a state where the parasite controlled the bodily functions. Also, the parasite produces a chemical that has properties not unlike that of antifreeze.
On the other hand the movie The Night of the Living Dead gave the explanation that hell had been filled and so now the dead had to walk the earth. That's a pretty good supernatural premise.
