gardy has had some great seasons but it falls apart fast whenever they do make it to october... frankly i thought he should have been replaced this offseason

it is in the best interest of the sport to have revenue sharing to keep everybody basically equal. but nope, everybody gets picked off. hunter, ortiz, nathan, loshe, crain... f**k your phillies have revere, not that he's great or anything but still. principle. we waste all our money on mauer. and i've said he needed to be traded for oh, 5 years now

well there is some revenue sharing already plus the luxury tax (which only the dodgers, yanks, and phillies pay)

twins are at 85 million, and the top, the dodgers, is at 235. 10 years ago the twins paid less to the entire roster than what arod made. but the twins pay twice the lowest in the league now. it would be better if the sharing was higher (its at 31%) because being able to spend 6x what the lowest spends does make for uneven games.

Yeah there are some modest measures in place, but when the top team is at 235M and another at 45M clearly there's too much disparity. It's hard to imagine a real salary cap with the way contracts are in MLB. In the NFL you can work around your salary cap because no matter what money a player is owed for the rest of his deal, you can release him and end up only paying a fraction of what he was supposed to get in his next season. In baseball the money's guaranteed, so if you signed a few cornerstone players of your team to the big deals that an in-demand player will command and they fall off or whatever you have to keep paying them through their whole contract. Phillies have been paying Ryan Howard 20 million a year to be complete garbage and will continue to this season and next because we can't cut him and no one in their right mind would take him in a trade. Only way you could make a situation like that even more of a nightmare is if we had to contend with a hard salary cap. Not that we wouldn't deserve it if we signed him to that stupid deal in a league with a hard cap.

NICE. An RBI Double from Howard puts the Phillies up 2-0 and tosses the starter before the end of the 6th. Nice to see some of our older players actually contributing to the offense.

Man, it's April 1st and I'm already on the edge of my seat with a 2-2 tie in the 8th inning. I'm going to have to re-calibrate my enthusiasm and anxiety to get through the next 160 games.

Lost with a walk off hit. As someone once said, winning a Major League Baseball game is the greatest thing in the world, and the second greatest thing in the world is losing a Major League Baseball game. Another season under way!
