Obamacare Exchange Exceeds 6 Million Projection Last Night

Obamacare is . . . working? Yes, it's true that the uninsured rate has fallen dramatically over the past 2 quarters. But, it's still higher than it was during the Great Recession (4Q2008). And, since the deadline has passed for signing up, that trend likely won't continue it's steeply-downward trend.

So, through mandated health insurance, expanded Medicaid, subsidized insurance premiums, and nationwide insurance exchanges, we're basically back to 2008. I guess that any progress is good progress, but I'd hoped for more.

(Just to be clear, I'm NOT one of those people, like I imagine exist at RNC HQ right now, that are actively hoping that PPACA fails. While I might expect it to fail, I "hope" that I am wrong, and that it works.)

I'm thinking that the numbers would be higher had what, 24 states opted out of the medicaid expansion, screwing their citizens because their GOP governors wanted to show off their anti-Obamacare boner to primary voters?

Yeah, when Jindal said he wouldn't do a state exchange, I was dumbfounded. It was clearly a thumb-of-the-nose to Obama. Now, the law says "every state shall set up its own exchange; if they don't, the Fed comes in". If the law would have said, "The Fed shall set up an exchange, unless the state sets up its own", then you'd have an exact mirror image of today -> all the Republican governors would set up their own, and Dems would let the Fed do it.

I hope it does.

One thing that I absolutely L-O-V-E about PPACA is the exchanges. Allowing similar individuals to pool together to purchase insurance across state lines is simply a no-brainer.

I mean, let's not sit here and act like this is all wine and roses. there are issue.

I'm 30, single, with no major illnesses or anything and i'm paying 321 a month for coverage just for me. i have to admit this is pissing me off. i'm healthy and i'm paying a shade under 4 grand a year for health coverage. for no other reason than i can afford to. i feel my insurance should be about 150 a month for full coverage.


while you have people out here fresh out of prison who get free medicare / medicaid. that's what i'm paying for basically. i'm paying for people who can't afford insurance to have insurance
