The guy ahead of me on line at the grocery store the other day was paying with an EBT card. They wouldn't let him buy an organic apple with his card because organic food is a luxury that costs more so he put the apple back but then they let him but a processed, non-nutritious but still overpriced TV dinner.
I think organic food is a rip off but why is he not allowed to buy an apple that's 20 cents overpriced but he's allowed to pay 5 dollars for $1.50 worth of unhealthy ingredients in a TV dinner?

I agree that there should be significant restrictions on what type of food those with EBT cards can buy. The issue in the TV dinner vs the Organic apple is that organic farms are often smaller ventures whereas the mass produced corn and chicken put into TV dinners is produced by the large Agg companies that are able to influence policy.

First step that should be taken is removing tax breaks for kids, giving people who do nothing 3500 per child is asking for a disaster.
