I don't see what we are arguing here. There is a gradient when it comes to ethnicity. Italians, Portuguese and Spanish are more similar to each other than say Germans and Italians, or Italians and West Africans. But you can always divide, subdivide pretty much ad infinitum.

You could in theory group all Americans together as one nation, but the unifying characteristics are pretty weak. It would be like unifying Portugal and Spain as one nation.

Sure sure. Now that we are in agreement, I'm assuming you are going to correct the Canadian regarding the Han ethnicity? Or are you guys butt buddies who can't have a disagreement?

Calling the Han a single ethnic group is just really weird. Genetically speaking, only about half share the same markers. The languages are different. The religions are varied. The cultural traditions are different. The division between North and South is obvious.

Of course they live in mainland China so I guess that counts for something. To me, though, its like saying Indian is an ethnicity. I guess.
