Well if you're going to look at a time in history when these ideas were most closely implemented you really ought to look at the Industrial Revolution in the Untied (spelling intended) States prior to the Progressive Era. Immigrants today think they have it bad, but then if you didn't end up in a Coal Mine you were working 6 12's for the Railroad companies. The market was much freer as you had that true Darwinian social system. If you worked hard enough it was certainly possible for you to own a steel company of your own.
