You people are such penny pinching misers. Of course someone running a multibillion dollar organization should be making big bucks. You guys are all so spoiled and sheltered you don't realize that you actually cannot find people to properly run such jobs in the long run unless you compensate them as such. American charities do so much good across the world precisely because they operate they massive corporations and treat their executives and employees as such. The scale is necessary to deliver services effectively, and you need someone high paid to manage such a job to limit the risk of graft and corruption, not to mention to ensure a certain amount of competence and dedication.
A big problem is that all charity employees and volunteers think they are the greatest thing since sliced bread and that their 3 years of scooping out rice in kenya makes them qualified to run a multimillion dollar enterprise. This isn't to say all high paid charity executives deserve their pay, only that organizations like Red Cross, World vision, MSF etc, genuinely need top executives to keep the organization running and you don't get that by offering 50k and your gratitude.
