We need a more diverse military!

One real problem is that our military is not representative of the population anymore. I just want to see more wealthy, intellectual, more liberal, well educated people, etc in our armed forces. Which branch do you think would appeal to those types of people?

JFK was a wealthy intellect who served in the military. Then the boomers came along ad decided that military service is for poors and minorities so anyone with a little money and a college career dodged serving and set the new precedent.

It is a pretty common misconception that the military is composed mostly of poor people, or people from the lower classes. In fact, as would be expected for a national institution, the middle class is fairly dominant.

I am still uncertain about the draft. On one hand, I am opposed to mandatory military service out of principle. On the other hand, I think it is true that having the draft decreases the willingness of people to go to war, because it'll be their sons and daughters that go off to get killed.

Someone convince me one way or another.
