Putin already got what he wanted anyway (Crimea). He doesn't give a shit about Eastern Ukraine.
So if this does get linked to the seperatists, and they were using Russian weaponry, he's going to turn on them in a second. Hell, he might send his own troops after them, and spare the US the trouble.
