It's our national temperament that makes terrorism so devastating. The death of 3,000 people is a horrible tragedy and a despicable criminal act, but it is not cause to turn our whole existence upside down, dismantle civil liberties, and go insane with foreign policy. If we have another 9/11 type attack it's all over.

had 3000 been in a barn when they died i think the response would have been a bit more subdued. the loss of life was compounded by 1. we all saw it happen, not just the aftermath, we were all sitting there watching one burn and then a plane hit the other, and then we watched them fall 2. it happened in nyc and 3. it resulted in billions in damage

the political culture of "safety at all costs" has won out. it'd be interesting to see who it happened exactly.

and yes the legislative branch is completely screwed-up and broken at this point. it's essentially become a dysfuntional house of lords controlled by 2 warring tribes of power-corrupted Jr High-schoolers.
