How does the GOP base feel about legalization? Old white people usually don't like teh marihuana right?

Found a few polls. Looks like only 40 percent of republicans support legalizing it and i'd guess that is not the mouth breathing base the GOP relies so heavily on.

How recent is the poll? If that's accurate today then yeah that's a problem for any candidate in the Iowa caucus where the likes of Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum win.

Anyone who runs on a "legalization" platform is going to have a tough time of it. It needs to be a "legalization to equalize and minimize crime" platform. Somehow show that legalization leads to less crime, and you might have a winner.

Agree with Dharma here. Prof's vision feels like the 90s. Making it an economic and freedom issue over a crime issue is the way to go.

None of these ideas will change the minds of older white voters, so the Republicans won't touch this with a 10 foot pole, even though there are probably quite a few GOP politicians who would legalize it..
