it depends on what you mean by support.
me and menson seem to think providing a stable household with enough food and shelter for everyone, as well as small amenities, is providing. dylan seems to think going on vacations and eating at michelin star restaurants is providing.
i don't think it's particularly hard for a family of today to provide the same level of "support" as a family in the 50s. as galt pointed out, the issue is that people feel entitled to more things even if they can't afford them and they aren't necessities.

Really the only answer is to work for like 5 years, live like a hermit and save up as much as you can, then move to a third world country where you can buy land and have a palace built for a few thousand bucks and live out the rest of your life like a king.
