She died in 2001, so if she did have a life insurance policy, I'm pretty sure my dad has spent it by now.

Better question - why would you want a diamond? Unless you are using it to cut things, it's just a useless status symbol.
Even as jewelry, it's the least pretty of all the gems. I mean, clear? It's not even a color!

to have a diamond made from the remains of someone i knew? that kind of just creeps me out. the only way it could be badass is if you were a gangster and everytime you killed someone you got them turned into a diamond, so the more diamonds you had in your chain the tougher it impied that you were.
