Yeah it seems to me that Dylan just has higher expectations. I wouldn't call them reasonable though - a kid who gets to go to Italy once is lucky enough, let alone every year or two.

Getting back to the topic: I think there is definitely a bit of cognitive dissonance among many Republicans who want society to return to what it was in the 1950s while rejecting even moderated versions of 1950s economic policies as tyrannical and a slippery slope to communism.
