It was his life. He didn't owe it to anybody to keep living. He decided to end it and that was his prerogative.
I also don't agree with labeling someone mentally ill for killing themselves. He may have had his fill of life. Sometimes ceasing to exist is an improvement.

I think he was broke. But fair point re depression. I tend to think there's always the option of seeking help instead of a noose but that's easy enough to say from a non - depressed persons perspective

Offing yourself causes a ton of pain and distress to your family. He was 63. Just start partying harder and stop taking care of yourself and it will all be over soon.
