It's like someone asking you to please not smoke in their house so you go out and think of a bunch of ways to punish them for it.
Is that a rational reaction? It seems obnoxious imho.

Indeed. The US is being smart by being the bigger man here, so to speak, and ignoring New Zealand's childish, misguided slight in order to continue our dominance of the region.
