Pineapple is my choice. Mostly I call for the removal of pineapple from food items on principal, but it works with a banana split.

Never had a bad banana split regardless of the type of toppings as long as the hot fudge is served on the side so as to keep my ice cream semi-solid and not a melted liquid in the bottom of the bowl. I pulse salted whole cashews in the food processor for that salty-sweet thing topping sometimes too.

Many recipes for carrot cake include crushed or chopped pineapple. It just isn't something most people are able to identify.
