To build on that last point, It's the power of the collective. In the same way that associating with a bunch of high achievers will push you to become more of that mind set, associating with proles is going to give you a prolish mindset. Get a bunch of 80 iq people together and they are going to create culture that really isn't conducive to upward mobility. Thus, even mildly bright people like a 110 IQ poor, can end up underperforming because they have become assimilated into a culture geared toward the below average. I think this is the most damaging aspect of poverty by far and I think it in large part stems from the negative consequences of millions of not very bright people associating with each other.
