The whole problem with the teacher issue is once again we're forced into the false choice.
The teachers' unions don't want to have to be accountable for the kids education and will claim that in the tougher schools it's beyond their control when the kids don't have adequate parenting and have to face daily life-or-death situations and gang pressures, etc. Not to mention poverty. Plus a lot of their dumb rules actually hinder teaching kids, because too often it's more about protecting turf than getting the job at hand done.
Then you have all the union-busting right wing types who somehow have imagined teachers as extravagantly overpaid primadonnas who--OMG, can you believe this!--don't even work three months a year!!!! Being paid with your tax dollars! Those parasites.
If anything begs for a judge to sit in between the two sides and give a third point of view, i.e., an objective one--this is it. But instead it's become politicized which then means of course in this country that there's only two solutions to every problem.
Brainless.
