Question about the Red Light District: Do you think there should be a rule that people who don't post there aren't fair game there? Like if Poster X was a very polite and kind person who wanted nothing to do with that section, would it be wrong for me to make a thread trashing them there, because they've never wanted anything to do with that place, or would it be ok because assuming they never go there, they'd never have to see it?

Ummm, why do we need a place where it's OK to personally insult other people? Are some of you that insecure that you need to insult others to make yourselves feel better? If you have a friend and want to make good-natured jokes, then in public is not the place for it. Do it via PM or something.

On the BBS that I referred to many posts ago, where we had "The Inner Circle" and "The Real Inner Circle" we didn't use the forum to bash users. Now there were times we talked about others but the primary purpose was to have a place where those who supported the BBS could go and weren't subject to just every one on the forum. The truth is it became our sanctum. It was also the most active place on the forum. I'm on many forums that vary in interest. One of the forums that I go on is a couponing forum. Stop laughing, dammit. You'd be surprised how many women that I've met while couponing. They have an area that is only for paying supporters. It's a pretty good area and the main forum doesn't suffer because of it. In addition, they allow paying members to have an email address. I don't know if HostGator allows unlimited email addresses but I use one.com for my websites and they do, so I'm assuming that a provider of that size would.

Again, the musing of a newbie.
