In the case of the ACA it was the republicans. Obama's farcical refusal to vote for the debt ceiling doesn't change that nor does their obstructionism over the ACA excuse his vote as a senator.

Passing it with the republicans was not a choice. Out was do it without the republicans or not do it. Bipartisanship wasn't an option here because the GOP only wanted to obstruct. Seeing this, Obama decided to do it without them and he won.

As I said, I have many criticisms of Obama and I will agree he's often not been a strong leader, but what I'm challenging is your claim that he refused to ever compromise. I think he made extensive efforts to do so, but was ineffective.

The republicans in congress have a governing philosophy of "what's mine is mine and what's yours is negotiable" so they view meeting anyone in the middle on anything is total defeat. Your partisan biased are leading you to ignore all overtures to the GOP and instead conclude that since they didn't vote for it that they were never given an opportunity to be part of the process.

if you look at my post history you'll see that while I am a leftist, I am not a democratic partisan in the least. I'm more typically accused of being in the tank for the GOP, especially for calling out the current dems in power for their foreign policy. But facts are facts: Obama made extensive efforts o reach out to Republicans on healthcare (the whole plan is a republican idea in fact), but the GOP a never wanted anything to do with it.
