My uncle thinks that black people are being sent to Minneapolis from Chicago as a conspiracy to "liberalize" the suburbs. When I was a kid, I stayed over at his house when he decided that sliders and bailey's irish cream were a good breakfast to serve on Christmas morning.
You gotta ignore the crazy, and seek out the good. Appreciate the parts of the relatives that created the good qualities in you (your father seems to have your mind for statistics and economic intricacy), and learn to push past the parts that make no earthly sense. It's the only way to survive intact.
