got people charging a dollar for a sword skin... a dollar.
but what would be real annoying real fast is if someone charged a dollar for my sword skin. i have to actively look to find if someone is making money off of my content
not to mention these are jsut modifications to games that someone else made. i don't think they get any cut. from what i read most of the money goes to steam, some to the modder
on the other hand financial incentive will hopefully lead to more and better mods
but having jsut sat through a talk on Hadoop I don't think so. the guy who made Hadoop also made Lucene, a search engine, of which he originally wanted to charge money but no one used it so he gave it away, and then it ended up being used in a lot of places like in Twitter once it was open source and free. similarly hadoop is so popular because it is open source and free. what i think will happen then is a bunch of mods being monetized then people giving up the modding business for good because no one buys them and then they get sick of it and don't even mod for free no more.
Thanks Gaben
