Serious question - whiskey guys. Do you really think that whiskey "tastes good"?

My friend readily admits that whiskey tastes like crap. But, he likes it despite the taste. Brings back memories, and likes the feeling, etc. But, he says that he totally understands why people who don't drink it (like me) don't like it.

So, why do you like whiskey?

Whiskey is delicious and the only liquor I can pour straight from a bottle into a glass and sip on with nothing else. I don't even take ice. In it's many forms whiskey can be sweet, spicy, earthy, savory, smokey, and a dozen other things. Extremely versatile and by far my favorite spirit.

I dunno how things are over there but there are a lot of Whiskey Bars around here run by bigtime enthusiasts who offer free tastings from time to time. If you wanna see what whiskey has to offer without spending money you should look into whether anyone around you offers free tastings.
