Oh I think that's entirely possible NAB. But GRRM has final say on both versions and this was, as far as we can tell, purely his idea so when I see people pissed at the show writers for messing up GRRMs plot lines and characters I think that's just a bit of scapegoating.

While everyone is focusing on stannis here, I'd like to bring up a lol portion of Danys storyline. The scene in the arena with all the Harpys and the dragon totally reminded me of Bruce Lee's the Chinese Connection where he was surrounded by about 30 guys all waiting their turn to attack rather than bum-rushing him in mass and overwhelming him. It was odd pacing which could be explained that the Harpys aren't all soldiers, but it was funny how they would come one or two at a time making them easy pickings.
Been a while since I've read that portion, but was Dorgon that vulnerable in the book like that scene made it appear?
I will say that I nearly cheered when Drogon showed up even though I knew it was coming.
