i think the larger annoyance is that the boltons just get away with everything they do. they're cartoon vaillains at this point.

Yeah they didn't say if he specifically said to have Stannis in on it but it would seem very odd for him to bring them this shocking event that must be included and then say "make up whatever details around it you want, I don't really care".

okay so i watched it

i think that shireen dies in the books, sure. but i don't think stannis had shit to do with it. as comrade mentioned, melisandre will sacrifice her. perhaps shireen's mother will cry in a similar way in the book. but i think stannis will not be there. it seems like grrm indicated shireen burns. no where in that does it say grrm insisted on stannis doing it

he's said before that the show and the book are different stories. he's as concerned as D&D at this point with having it follow his vision.

philly he probably told them "melisandre burns shireen"... and the writers know that melisandre and shireen are both at castle black and away from stannis. while davos would only be gone for "two days" in the show, the gift and new gift (area owned by the night's watch south of the wall) is 50 leagues wide -- 150 miles. a league is the distance it takes a man to walk in an hour, give or take. it took jon snow "slightly less than a moon's turn" to get from winterfell -- in the heart of the north, far south of the gift -- to castle black. yet davos will do so in two days in the show.

in the book stannis is in a giant blizzard, unable to return to castle black -- it takes nearly a month in summer weather to get up there. he's not gonna burn shireen. he's physically unable to do it as he won't be there, and it's not in his character
