There is no "believing" in ghosts. There are additional realities to the ones our 5 senses can comprehend, and there are instances where those realities cross, at which point your senses pick up on something that you can't explain. It is not particularly practical to attempt to say that ghosts do or don't exist. If they didn't exist, we wouldn't exist.

I do not believe that "schizophrenic hallucinations" is the most dominant "scientific explanation." I understand what you mean, that there are actual physical occurrences in many instances, to be explained naturally, that are not all some form of delusion, but that doesn't mean that you believe in ghosts. Certainly there are sounds, shadows, lights and so on that may seem inexplicable, that may seem to some the product of ghosts, that have occurred but are the products of natural occurrences rather than ghosts. There is no doubt at all, however, that in many instances people are having strong emotional/psychological episodes and are indeed hallucinating in some fashion.

Psychological phenomena that can happen to the easily suggestible mind, and nothing more. Some one tells them a ghost is there, and then they literally feel a presence, or even see a ghost.

It's either that or attention seeking behavior.

there are some phenomena that are not quite so fleeting as to be explained away by tricks of light. likewise, not every instance is an "episode".

i find this argument incredibly common with atheists. willing to suspend judgment on some of the unexplainable features of the universe, unwilling to do the same regarding ghost stories. they MUST be explained, in any fashion, in any belittling way. they cannot accept that ghosts might just be one more feature of the universe we haven't really figured out yet.
