the problem is that "democratic" is an adjective, "Democrat" is the noun. "republican" on the other hand is a noun or adjective. the Democratic Party is full of democrats; it's the democrat party. these democrats are fine with the word "democrat" to describe an individual who is a member of the democratic party, so, I agree with Philly, it's now just used to troll people about nothing
