Should Teachers Be Armed?

Where would they put the guns? Where would the teachers keep the guns? If they keep it in something like a safe, it's going to be hard to get to if a shooter comes in. They aren't going to be able to call a timeout and ask the shooter to wait for them to get the gun out. But if the teachers keep it somewhere easily accessible, a student could take it and shoot up the school.

Its very simple. You give them a Browning .50, and you mount it on a low, secured tripod across the teacher's desk at the front of the room, opposite the entrance. Its a big, belt fed weapon with a relatively short action, so even the teachers of small stature should be easily able to stand on their chairs, chamber the weapon, and maintain burst fire without much need for the assistance of the students. I suppose she could have a couple of handy kids trained up to help with the reload and moving of the ammo boxes. A 100 round box of M33 ball is pretty heavy. Might be too much for elderly educators. Since we're firing indoors...we can dispense with the tracers. Fire hazard. Kids around. Just ordinary lead would be fine.

Also...the desk should be of heavy oak or steel construction, preferably anchored to the floor. The recoil of this thing is pretty harsh, and its going to walk backwards until the teacher's posterior is pressed up against the chalkboard, smearing the long division problems they were working on. Education comes first. Surely we can budget for some floor anchors for the desk.

I suppose they could go with an M60...or even a 5.56 SAW. But you just can't beat that .50 BMG stopping power, you know? Think of the children. Would you trust your kid to a pansy .30 or 5.56 cartridge? I know I wouldn't.

Go for the M2. You won't regret it.
