Congress is firmly in lobbyist's pocket on IP protections. It's fairly easy to get away with since it's somewhat technical. Most people don't know they're paying way more than they should be because of tricks like that.

Another fun one are all the trademarks Disney gets extended whenever they need to. The theory behind protecting IP is that it incentizes people to create. What incentive do we create when somebody who has been dead for 40 years keeps getting IP protections on their creations extended every 10 years? None? Oh that's right. Guess that rationale goes out the window.

Obviously there's a balance between allowing the public exploitation of the fruits of one's labor and making sure that somebody gets paid enough for that fruit to make them want to make more fruit, but the FDA sucks at striking that balance.

Abolish them. Put Galt in charge. Introduce a little anarchy.

In all seriousness I would pay a significant sum of money to watch a live feed of Galt in charge of a large federal agency for 24 hours.

I am totally down with making Galt an agent of chaos and putting him in charge of the FDA. This is exactly what needs to happen, which is my argument: you don't abolish the agency, you put a Galt in charge.

Because nobody panics when things go "according to plan."

We need some panic.
