I'm not saying we shouldn't have separate forums for those requiring links and those without. I'm saying the current system is illogical and counterintuitive. How would any new member know to check the soapbox? Why is the soapbox halfway down the forum list? If the soapbox is intended to be a general discussion without links, then it should be placed on the forum in a manner that indicates it is equivalent to the general discussion forum, but simply does not require links. The naming is also unconventional, which perhaps is why we have so many issues with people making threads in the wrong place.
The general discussion and soapbox forums should be right next to each other, at the top of the forum, and it should be clearly indicated than they are similar in purposes, except that one requires a link to start threads, and one does not. It would help new members out immensely and would encourage people to make more threads in the soapbox.
