NASA of the 60's was fantastic. They handed a blank check to a bunch of nerds (back before nerds were neutered by self loathing) and said, "You guys have brains made of pure unfiltered awesome. Go forth and do the awesome things your brains tell you to because f**k the Commies! Go nuts! Look! We're making it rain!"
And they went forth and kicked ass. They made space and moon and planets Commies alike their bitches.
But now...NASA is much as I described. A political quagmire of compromise, nervous hand wring, and institutional ass-covering.
