I think that Chavez is the best thing for Venezuela, right now. Think about it. If the pie that you are working with is only so big, then socialism collapses, because no one is working to increase its size. Therefore, the pieces get cut up smaller and smaller, until everyone only gest crumbs.
But, that's now what is happening in Venezuela. Because of their resources, the US (and much of the world) is pumping money into their country to make the pie bigger. Thie means that he can keep distributing those peices, and they don't get smaller.
This would never work in the US or most other countries, because we have to work to make our own pie bigger. But, so long as the US is pumping money into Venezuela, socialism is going to work there.
As soon as the oil runs out, or we find alternate fuels, they're screwed, while the US will move on.
