saz has been more than adequate and describing why you are entirely wrong on this issue. i think saz is right to point out that actions like this, where the leaders actively go against the will of their electorate, are going to be a major problem for europe, not just in their actual policies being a mess, but the revolt by the european electorate. merkel herself has taken a bold stance this entire year about being welcoming for refugees. she was named person of the year largely because of this issue where she was seen as standing firm against the waves. this is retreat from that stance. it's an orderly retreat, yes, but this was defeat for her. and she's making claims about stuff yes. but when she goes and makes these promises, if they don't deliver on it to what the german people want, which is restrictions to immigration, and don't "do enough", there will be a popular revolt at the voting booth
