The world has changed a lot in late modern times. The early industrial and later techno advances in the past 150-200 years have been off the chart compared to the progress of earlier years. One thing that has never changed about the world, or never will, is the fact its finite. Sustainability will have to replace the illusion of perpetual growth. I guess its a different way to view progress. The cost of living besides money is the years out of your life doing whatever you do that allows you to live. Also in a finite world we will need to know the value of enough, excess, and absurd excess. If people put as much effort in getting along rather then fighting wars, the world would be a HELLUVA lot more fun.
The hardest part of doing nothing is knowing when your done.
